Just Call Her The Fisherman
Last Thursday was The Force's final game of the season. Since we were eliminated from the CFL in game 5, game 6 was for pride. It was a defensive battle once again this week. I was right defensive end as I applied a lot of pressure on the opposing quarterback. I flushed out the quarterback several times to the left end and he got the sacks.
Sure it says 0 sacks by my name, but for me it's not about my stats, it's all about the team. We had several big plays with the "Hook and Ladder" as our signature move. Jason N. would dump it off to Pam C. and Pam would pitch it back to Jason and Jason would be gone. He's got an arm and fast legs. I would say he's our MVP. However, we could not score against the Heroes. Turnover on downs. In the final drive for the High School Heroes, they took us to the 1 yard line with less than a minute to play.
Greg C. of the High School Heroes dropped back to pass, tossed a bullet in the end zone and was caught by one of the biggest players in CFL history. Touchdown.
I could only watch from the sidelines because we were rotating defensive linemen. I dropped my head in shock. But wait..
There was a flag on the play. "Too many ineligible players on the field." This penalty went against the offense. There was still hope for The Force. The penalty put the Heroes 5 yards back, replay the down. The Heroes tossed for an incomplete pass and that was turnover on downs.
Our team took the High School Heroes into overtime, 0-0. I was at right guard/tackle and protected my quarterback fairly well, except when I was center. I'm a lousy center, I've had a low snap one time and that cost The Force a down. I haven't been the same since. So when it's my time to be center, I concentrate on the toss rather than the block and by the time my head is up, I miss my block and the qb has to scramble. Sorry to Kevin and Jason.
I would have to say right guard/tackle is my position and once in a while I'd peel off to the side and get a catch here and there. In overtime, I was right guard/tackle and my qb was never sacked. In fact, our qb was never sacked during the whole game.
In overtime, CFL rules state that each team gets a chance to score a touchdown like in college. We managed to stop the Heroes on their drive. Now it was our turn to take this one home. We started at the 25 and worked our way up to the 12 yardish.
That's when we called for the Hook and Ladder play. Our wide receivers cut in-n-out (Did someone say In-n-Out?!) and Pam rolled off to the flats. Jason dumped it to her when fake-pitched it to Jason and the defensive backs bit on the bait, leaving Pam wide open to run in for the touchdown. The Force came out with a victory over the Heroes, 7-0 OT.
The Force was happy with that win due to the fact we leave the season with a win. We had a Force huddle at the end and closed it off with a prayer from our web editor, Casey P. All in all, I was very pleased with the team chemistry and we really came together as a group.
