Photoshop World
Friday, I went to see the Tech Expo for the Photoshop World. Nothing too great over there. Just a bunch of freebies. Too bad they weren't offering a free Pen and Tablet from Wacom. Drats. ..the Jam Session later that night was simply awesome! Some of the top Photoshop Instructors (like Scott Kelby, Julieanne Kost, Ben Willmore, etc.), showed their some of their skills in 'bout 6 minutes! That was tight.
Oh yeah I forgot to mention, "Big Electric Cat". Scott, Kalebra, Felix and a couple of others made up their own band, Big Electric Cat. They even made a spoof of VH1's Behind the Music called Behind the Pixels. This segment was too funny. "It got so hectic, they threw RAM chips on stage!"
Anyways, that was Friday, no biggie.
Now what I paid a whopping $399 for, Saturday. I went to see the keynote and got to meet some nice lady from Whittier. I think her name was Lynda or something. Cool thing 'bout the keynote was that Julieanne Kost showed us a couple of new things in Photoshop 7. Ooh.. Aah. I can already tell that I'm gonna like it. I can't wait til it's out. Besides that, I pretty much just stayed in the web track the whole day.
The first session with Ben Willmore was just great, he showed us how to slice and stuff. The second session with Robb Kerr was just okay. Just optimizing files on the web and what not. I should've gone to another one. The next one with Michael Baumgardt was a snoozer. I'm sorry, but there just wasn't much on "Advanced Web Techniques". Once again, I should've gone to another class. Maybe one with either Scott, Julieanne or Ben. They're my faves.
I wasn't too happy with my selections and wasn't too sure if I was going to get my $399 worth. But next I went to "High Tech Layout" with Scott Kelby. Even though he did horrendous job, I learned a lot with his enthusiasm and comedic approach. I feel that someone's who's teaching something be a lil spunky and have fun teaching. Much like Scott, Julieanne and Ben.
Last but not least, I saw Jack Davis, author of the Wow books (I think!). Animating graphics, hell yeah. I learned some cool techniques in that class, but wasn't able to catch any of his other classes. I figured if he just taught what was in the book.. I could just read the book. Don't get me wrong, he's a nice guy, but since it was already the end of the day, I don't think he had the fire that he potentially could've had in the beginning of the day.
Whew, my fingers are aching! I need a rest. I'll blog later.
